Neil McLean graduated Honours BSc in 1974, MBChB with commendation in 1976, FRCS in 1980 and MD in 1992.

Following training in General Surgery and ENT, he gained accreditation in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1986. He was appointed Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon the Newcastle upon Tyne Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust from 1989-2002, was Deputy Director of the Australian Cranio-facial Unit and appointed Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 2003. He is presently Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in the Department of Surgery, Wansbeck District General Hospital, Northumberland

neil mclean consultant plstic surgeonNeil MClean is a Tutor on the Royal College of Surgeons Core Skills in Plastic Surgery Course and has recently been appointed as Plastic Surgery Adviser to the Professional Standards Department at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is a former Council Member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons, is a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and UCAS Selector at the Medical School, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He is also Assessor of the examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Associate Professor McLean was recently appointed to the National Council of BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) and will serve on Council for the years 2009-2011 inclusive. He has also recently been appointed as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board to the Archives of OroFacial Sciences.

Associate Professor McLean has recently been appointed a Tutor to the Royal College of Surgeons Cadaveric Skills Workshops which are held regularly under the auspices of BAPRAS of training junior doctors in surgical techniques".

He has over 200 original published articles on all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and his current projects include the setting up of a Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Service at Wansbeck Hospital and being involved in the initiation of a Cranio-facial Training Programme at the University Science Malaysia.
