Preparation
To
derive the most benefit from the week, it is
advised that the participant is aware of the
uses and anatomical landmarks for raising the
flaps. After registration for the course a Flap
manual will be sent out prior to the dissection
week, and the participant should become familiar
with the flaps described.
It is clear from past
experience that there is a wide range of speciality
interest of participants who attend the course,
and clearly there is a preference to wish to
carry out only a small number of relevant flaps
in some cases. The flap course is ideal in offering
only two participants per half of the cadaver,
so the opportunity to dissect particular flaps
is possible with the assistance of the partner.
We recommend however that all modules are attended
to maximise the dissection opportunities.
All cadavers are preserved
with a gycerol / formaldehyde solution with
special vessel staining techniques used, enhancing
the visibility of the vasculature.
